Over/under betting

Sports betting often provides a wide range of choice when it comes to betting types. Each is exciting in their own way, and each provides its own advantage. Over/under bets are very popular and getting more popular by the minute, so you should get to know them in order to choose the best betting strategy for you. Read on to find out more about over/under betting and learn how to combine your preferences to maximise your enjoyment.

About over/under bets

Over/under bets are bets on whether a specific statistic for a game will be higher or lower than a pre-agreed value. The most common type of over/under bet is on the combined score of two teams in a match. In this case, a bettor will wager that the total number of points scored in a game will be higher or lower than a set value (normally referred to as “the over/under” for that game). If they are correct, they will win. If the actual number of points scored is equal to the over/under bet, the bet will be declared a push and all bets are refunded. As over/under suggests, as well as placing bets on the total being over a certain amount you can also bet on the total being under that amount. The principle is the same, you win the bet if the number of points scored is under your chosen limit.

Over/under betting - an example

Many American football games see around 54 points scored by the end of the last quarter, making it a popular betting market for placing over/under bets. You can place your bet on an upcoming or a current game, or choose game in progress and combine over/under betting with live betting. If you place a bet on an upcoming game, you'll have two options, as seen on the right:

  • -53.5 points which means that less than 54 points will be scored by the end of the game
  • +53.5 points which means that 54 or more points will be scored by the end of the game

It doesn't matter which team scores more points, or how. Over/under bets are totally independent of the result.

Benefits of over/under bets

You can place over/under bets on nearly every sporting event. Whether you want to place over/under bets on football, ice hockey, basketball, or any other sport, you can at NEO.bet. They're easy to combine, and you're free to place over/under bets on all different kinds of betting markets. One benefit is also that you don't have to choose a favourite to win, so you can place over/under bets even if your team is losing. Over/under betting is good for newcomers as you don't necessarily have to know about tactics, form, or line-ups.

When to use over/under betting

You can place American football, hockey, baseball, or soccer over/under bets depending on what you think the total amount of points scored will be. You can choose to bet on the total number of points after each quarter, half, or by the end of the game, or you can change the bet to only take one team into account. In markets such as soccer, you can also choose to bet on the number of other events such as corners or cards. The combination of over/under bets is practically limitless with the vast range of statistics available to bet on with over/under betting.
